PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Bridgnorth station footbridge is a three span cable stayed steel footbridge spanning the B4364, giving direct access from High Town to Bridgnorth Station. The holding down bolts to the fixed end of the deck had failed causing the deck to lift, a temporary repair had been completed, and R & C Williams were contracted to complete the permanent repairs to the structure.

The works consisted of installing kentledge to stabilise the deck, partial removal of the concrete abutments with hydro demolition around the holding down bolts, Installation of new holding down bolts, fixing reinforcement with resin anchors to the existing abutments, and re-casting the concrete abutments and making good brickwork.

All works were carried out on a very restricted site and required the management of the public interface.

By utilising a rapid strength concrete the contract was completed one week ahead of programme allowing the bridge to re-open for the commencement of the Severn Valley Railway’s spring opening.
