PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Ditchford bridge is a listed multi arched masonry structure carrying Ditchford Road over the River Nene . The structure had been previously strengthened by spanning the weak arches with reinforced concrete beams cast around existing services which were covered with slabs, and steel plates. Although some services were diverted R & C had to protect and work around a 200mm DI water pipe, a 250mm DI sewage rising main & a 200mm DI Gas main.

The works involved removal of existing tarmac surfacing, removing steel & PC cover plates breaking out selected defective RC beams with hydro demolition to avoid unnecessary vibration to the structure. New RC beams were then cast as required, and new purpose made PC cover slabs installed over the service bays. The complete deck was then waterproofed with a spray applied membrane before the final bituminous binder & surface course was laid.
