This project involved there-alignment of the A38 southbound carriageway to enable access scaffolding to be erected to the central bridge pier to facilitate phased concrete repairs to the central pier including the installation of a sacrificial anode CP system. The PC bridge beams had to be jacked to allow for repairs sequences adjacent to the bearings. The overbridge deck tarmac surfacing was planed off, and waterproofing removed to allow for a full concrete condition survey and isolated concrete repairs completed. The deck was waterproofed with a spray applied membrane, kerbs re-laid, and surfacing completed. The deck works were carried out in three phases under signal controlled traffic management to ensure the road was kept open.
